  • Chat, voice, and shared room hangouts

Getting started

From a mood to a meaningful first hangout.

1

Find the right pal

Search, filter, and sort the directory. Compare interests, languages, background, pronouns, personality traits, signature friendship vibe, shared-room tools, hangout style, side-by-side pal fit, first-hangout previews, and AI-use boundaries. Each pal has a profile-specific persona that keeps their voice, attitude, friendship dynamic, and interests consistent across chat and calls.

Browse pals
2

Choose how to connect

Start a text chat, use a live voice hangout, schedule a one-off session, or open a collaborative shared room. VibePal provides hosted AI access, so you do not enter an API key.

Fast help

Text chat

Ask questions, share examples, and read structured replies with headings, tables, lists, quotes, links, and syntax-highlighted code.

Live conversation

Voice hangout

Speak by microphone or type while the pal answers aloud. Direct calls can be open-ended or use a target from 5 minutes to 3 hours.

Planned time

Scheduled hangout

Book a one-off hangout without a friendship journey, or schedule a path session. Times are stored with your timezone and shown in local time.

Shared workspace

Shared room

Hang out with an optional AI-generated plan, shared whiteboard, conversation prompts, notebook, rich document editor, interest labs, code, and SVG tools.

Chat controls

  • Pal settings: adjust reply depth, reasoning, conversation pace, feedback style, hangout mode, speech style, and voice for the active pal.
  • Conversation display: messages include local timestamps. Pal replies support rich Markdown, responsive tables, links, task lists, and highlighted code.
  • Window controls: maximize chat for focused reading or minimize it to the title bar. During a minimized call, the timer, mute, end-call control, connection state, and voice activity remain available.
  • Conversation continuity: signed-in message history and relevant saved member context help returning pals continue without repeating the whole introduction.

Voice controls and minutes

  • Microphone mode: speak naturally and hear the pal answer. Your browser must have microphone permission.
  • Typed-input mode: type with the keyboard while the pal replies by voice. The pal is told which input mode you chose.
  • Hangout timing: the pal receives the planned duration and elapsed hangout time, but reports the timer only when you ask or when timing is useful.
  • Hosted access: voice requires sign-in and uses the minutes available in your current plan cycle. The account menu, profile, Hangouts, and call history show usage.
  • Connection safety: long hangouts refresh the underlying live connection automatically. If a call still fails, it stops immediately and records a detailed reference in chat.

Collaborative shared room

A shared hangout space for thinking out loud.

Open Hangouts
Practice

Work through guided questions and activities during the hangout.

Notebook

Keep structured hangout notes and share the latest reflection card with the pal.

Interest lab

Adapts to the pal, including Pronunciation Lab or Code Lab when relevant.

Document

Use a rich word processor with headings, formatting, links, tables, lists, and export.

More tools

Open Resources, Review Cards, Transcript, Code Lab, and SVG Studio.

Screen sharing

Choose a screen, window, or browser tab during a live hangout so the pal can follow what you are showing.

Hangout recap

Leaving safely ends the call, saves local work, and opens a hangout recap.

Sharing is deliberate. Whiteboard, notebook, document, code, and SVG work is stored in your browser and sent to the connected pal when you choose Show pal, update a shared reflection card, or a hangout tool requests it. Screen sharing starts only after you choose Share screen and approve a screen, window, or tab in your browser; it never includes screen audio. Pal activity and sharing status stay visible while you work.

Planning and continuity

Turn separate calls into an ongoing routine.

View your hangouts

Hangouts and calendar

  • Upcoming and past: the Hangouts page brings scheduled sessions, recent hangout history, friendship journeys, and remaining voice allowance together.
  • One-off scheduling: schedule any pal directly from their profile without creating a friendship journey first.
  • Calendar views: switch between day and week layouts. Drag a hangout to reschedule it, resize it to change duration, or use the exact date, time, and duration editor.
  • Weekly planning: build a schedule around preferred days and start time while preserving appointments you set manually.

Friendship journeys

  • Paid-plan feature: saved friendship journeys are available on Basic, Plus, and Pro. Free accounts can still chat, take vibe quizzes, follow activity decks, and schedule one-off hangouts.
  • Goal to journey: describe what you want to explore, make, practice, or talk through and VibePal generates a title, sequenced hangouts, prompts, milestones, and progress structure.
  • Multiple paths: create more than one path with the same pal, rename each path, open its full details page, and continue the next unfinished session.
  • Generation choice: choose the available faster or more advanced generation model. Model access depends on the active plan.

Progress and account

Keep useful memories, notes, and progress between hangouts.

Activity decks, vibe quizzes, and keepsakes

  • Interactive activity decks: public activity decks can include diagrams, mathematical notation, flow charts, highlighted code, interactive examples, checkpoints, and interest-matched pal support.
  • Activity deck progress: sign in to save chapter completion. Activity deck pages identify AI-generated educational content so you can review important facts independently.
  • Interest vibe quizzes: take free tests across the interests covered by VibePal. Results are indicative rather than accredited grades.
  • Pal context: saved test results can be shared with relevant pals so hangouts begin closer to your current level.
  • Certificates: your profile lists completed-activity deck records and the latest saved result for each vibe quiz, with dates, results, issuer, and source links.

Messages, favorites, and reviews

  • Message Center: signed-in members can revisit pal conversations in one dedicated inbox and continue from the pal profile.
  • Member context: your saved name, conversation preferences, notes, relevant vibe quiz results, and recent conversation history can help pals personalize later chats and calls.
  • Favorites: use the bookmark or heart control to save pals, then open the compact Favorites page from the header account menu.
  • Ratings and reviews: signed-in members can rate and review pals. Your submitted reviews also appear on your profile.
  • Public pal activity: profile views, likes, chats, calls, and recent activity summarize combined member interest rather than exposing an individual member.

Settings and themes

  • Profile: review favorites, submitted reviews, certificates, plan dates, usage, and collapsible sign-in diagnostics.
  • Settings: update your member name, conversation preferences, pal context notes, and saved appearance from the dedicated Settings page.
  • Appearance: choose from light, dark, balanced, branded, and true dark themes. The selected theme also applies to the admin console when available.
  • Account navigation: the header account menu links to Profile, Settings, Messages, Hangouts, Favorites, plan management, and Sign out.

Plans and voice allowance

  • Plan access: every account can chat with every pal. Paid plans add saved friendship journeys, stronger reasoning options, and larger hosted voice allowances.
  • Monthly or yearly: choose a one-month term or a discounted one-year term. Payment collection is not connected yet, so plan selection currently updates access without charging you.
  • Downgrades: a lower plan is scheduled for the current term's expiry. Existing access and remaining minutes stay unchanged until that date, then the new allowance begins.
  • Usage records: Profile, Hangouts, and call history show included, used, and remaining minutes together with subscription and valid-until dates.
Saved to your accountProfile details, favorites, reviews, plan dates, call usage, schedules, messages, test attempts, activity deck progress, pal memory, and eligible friendship journeys.
Saved in this browserPal-specific chat and voice preferences plus shared room whiteboard, notebook, document, code, and SVG workspace content.

Troubleshooting

Fast fixes before contacting support.

Do I need to provide a Gemini or other AI API key?

No. Pal chat, friendship-journey generation, shared-room planning, and live voice use VibePal's hosted AI connection. Voice access still requires sign-in and available plan minutes.

Why am I being asked to sign in?

Public pals, activity decks, reflection-card pages, tools, and vibe quizzes can be explored without an account. Sign-in is required when VibePal needs to save personal data, including voice usage, schedules, favorites, reviews, messages, activity deck progress, test results, and friendship journeys.

Why will a voice call not start?

Sign in, confirm that hosted voice minutes remain, and allow microphone access when using microphone mode. Reload the page if the security token expired, or use typed-input mode when microphone permission is unavailable.

What should I do when a call stops with an error?

The call stops immediately so time after the failure is not counted. Review the timestamped error entry, connection details, reference number, and suggested next step in chat. Check your connection, restart the hangout once, and include the reference when contacting support if it repeats.

Why can the pal not see my shared room work?

Shared room work remains local until it is shared. Start the live hangout, then use Show pal or Update pal on the whiteboard, notebook, document, Code Lab, or SVG Studio and wait for the shared status.

How do I share my screen with the pal?

Start the live hangout, choose Share screen in the shared room header, and select a screen, window, or browser tab in the browser prompt. Keep the sharing preview open until it says the pal is receiving live updates. Use Stop sharing or your browser sharing control when you are finished.

Why can I not create or save a friendship journey?

Sign in and confirm that the active plan is Basic, Plus, or Pro. Friendship journeys are a paid-plan feature. A free account can still schedule a standalone pal hangout without creating a path.

Why is a scheduled hangout showing the wrong time?

VibePal stores the hangout timezone and displays the appointment in your current local time. Open the hangout editor to confirm the date, time, timezone, and duration, especially after travelling or changing the device timezone.

Why did my minutes stay the same after choosing a lower plan?

That is expected. A downgrade begins when the current plan term expires, so the existing allowance remains available until the valid-until date. The lower monthly cap applies from the next plan cycle.
